Tilapia with Lime Sauce

Here’s another delicious idea to serve up for Fridays during lent! We LOVED this…I even almost convinced the little picky one to try it. This came together so easily (like, on the table in about 20 minutes…doesn’t get much easier than that!) and was a nice switch from our usual fish dishes.

Tilapia with Lime Sauce
adapted from Flavors of Brazil

4 tilapia filets
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup dry white wine
1 cup light sour cream (can also use creme fraiche)
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon freshly grated lime peel
salt and pepper

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a saucepan. Add onion and saute until transparent. Add wine, bring to boil, then reduce until wine is almost evaporated. Turn heat to low and add sour cream, heating through but not bringing to boil. Add lime peel, stir, and take off heat. Set aside and keep warm.

Add remaining butter to large skillet and once melted, add tilapia (season with salt and pepper first). Cook until nicely browned, just a few minutes on each side, turning once. Place fish on serving platter and top with sauce. Serve additional sauce on side.

Serves 4.

  1. Hi Melissa, I am so happy I had your blog as my SRC assignment this month. It was one of the best – so many amazing recipes to choose from! I could have your blog as an assignment for the next year and I would not get bored :-).
    And this recipe is just one example. I am not a huge fish fan, but I make it because it’s healthy. But this recipe with this lemony sour cream sauce really made tilapia special.
    And the garlic bread and the buttermilk ranch dressing recipes were really irresistible: so easy and so yummy! Thank you for all the deliciousness and I will be coming to your blog much more!
