Sleepover Cake

We had a bunch of Bella’s girlfriends over for a party last week. A Pancakes & Pajamas party, to be exact. It was so much fun – the girls LOVED it! Bella put on her special PJs as soon as she got home from school, and waiting for her friends to arrive…

The tables were set and ready to go…

And the cake was waiting to be cut into (after pancakes, and games, and decorating pillowcases, and rainbow loom, and tattoos…)

The perfect cake for a “sleepover”! No, I wasn’t crazy enough to actually have 10 five year olds sleep at my house…but it was fun pretending 🙂

Sleepover Cake
adapted from Kids Birthday Party Guide

1 cake box mix (I used strawberry)
homemade white buttercream frosting
2 Twinkies
2 large marshmallows
4 Vanilla wafers
Mini M&Ms
4 Teddy Grahams
cake decorating gel (I used white, yellow, red, pink…I would have used black if I had it!)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13 cake pan. Prepare cake mix according to package instructions. Bake and let cool.

Make frosting and put 2/3 of it in a bowl. Color it, using whatever color you want the blanket to be. Leave the remaining 1/3 white. Frost the top third of the cake with the white buttercream.

Cut each Twinkie in half lengthwise. Place the 4 pieces on the cake as pictured for the “bodies”. Frost remainder of cake with blanket color.

Cut each marshmallow in half and place on top of each Twinkie as “pillows”. Place a Vanilla wafer on top of each marshmallow. Decorate faces and hair as you like, using mini M&Ms for eyeballs (I also used them as decoration for the blanket). Place one Teddy Graham on each girl’s body. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to eat.
